Granite Plus FAQ

Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota, Lakeland, Venice & surrounding areas

Planning a kitchen renovation or building new in Tampa Bay? Your countertop fabricator choice matters more than you might think. This FAQ covers your questions about Granite Plus's materials, installation, pricing, and services in the Tampa Bay and Sarasota metro areas.

Materials & Selection

What types of countertop materials do you offer?

We work with granite, quartz, marble, quartzite, and porcelain. As a premier partner for Cambria, Pompeii, and Cosentino—three industry leaders—we offer their complete collections, including cutting-edge Dekton and Éclos surfaces. We also have a curated list of 40 colors that we sell by the square foot instead of by the slab.

How do I choose the right material for my kitchen?

Book a free in-home design consultation, and we'll bring samples directly to you. Seeing materials in your actual lighting with your cabinets and décor beats guessing from showroom displays. We'll discuss your design goals, durability needs, and maintenance preferences. This way, we can find what suits your kitchen use best.

Do you have a showroom I need to visit?

Yes and No.

We have a showroom close to our fabrication facility in St. Pete. We take appointments and walk-ins during the week and recently started Saturday hours. Our NOVAMESA Collection of 40 curated slabs are on display, as well as a ton of samples from our partners.

We can bring the showroom to you. Our mobile consultation service covers our 7 county service area. This option works great for some customers. You'll see how materials look with your cabinets, lighting, and décor. No more guessing from a showroom setting.

Or you can go completely digital with our new AI enhanced visualization tool. Take a picture of your project and flip through our digital NOVAMESA Collection.

Can you work with my contractor or designer?

Yes. Some customers prefer to engage us through their designer, cabinet shop, or contractor. We coordinate with your project team to ensure installation timing and communication proceed without issues. We also offer an in-home consultation with your designer or contractor. Let us bring our 40-color NOVAMESA Collection to your home. Your design team can then see our selections in your natural light.

What's the difference between granite, quartz, and marble countertops?

Granite is natural stone, though "granite" has become a catch-all term for many natural stone types. Quartz is a manufactured product that combines natural quartz crystals with synthetic resins. Both are durable—quartz offers uniform patterns while granite brings natural character. Marble is also a wide category of natural stone; it can refer to marble and many other softer stones, such as dolomite.

Most people ask this question because they worry about maintenance. Don't. We use advanced sealers on natural stone that create surfaces ready for everyday use. The only people steering you away from natural stone are those who only sell quartz. We sell all three options, so we remain unbiased. You can focus on design, and we'll handle durability.

Can you match existing countertops for additions or repairs?

We can usually get close, though exact matches depend on your current material, age, and availability. Natural stones have unique characteristics—patterns vary significantly even within the same quarry. Quartz is easier to match but not foolproof since colors and patterns change over time due to dye variations. Bring a sample to your consultation, and we will tell you what is possible.

Installation Process

How long does the installation process take?

Most residential installations are completed in one day, usually taking 4 to 8 hours based on the project's size. Expect 3-4 weeks from final material choice to completed countertops. This includes templating, fabrication, and scheduling. We provide clear timelines upfront and keep you updated throughout. Complex projects, new construction, and commercial work have different schedules.

Do you handle the templating and measurements?

Yes, though we need your input. After you choose your material, our template technician will take precise measurements of your countertops. We will confirm the locations of your sink, appliances, and other design details. It's helpful if you're present during this step, as it ensures we get your design just right and avoid any mistakes.

Before fabrication begins, you'll review everything during our final confirmation process.

What is a Final Confirmation?

Final Confirmation is our most critical manufacturing step. We show you the full countertop design and all details. Once you agree, we'll start fabrication. We make custom stone surfaces, and stone is unforgiving. So, double-checking helps us avoid mistakes and protects us both.

What should I expect on Installation Day?

Our crew arrives with your finished countertops and necessary equipment. We protect your floors. We remove old countertops if needed. Next, we install your new surfaces. We pay close attention to seams and add support systems. After final adjustments, we clean the job site and guarantee your satisfaction. We have a 1-year workmanship guarantee on every project.

Do you remove and dispose of old countertops?

Yes, we take care of removal and disposal during installation. We also ensure proper cleanup afterward. We'll go over removal details in your consultation. If needed, we'll add those costs to your quote.

What happens if my cabinets aren't level?

Our installers routinely handle minor leveling issues using professional shimming techniques. Major problems get identified during templating, and we'll work with you on solutions. Most normal settling and minor variations aren't problematic.

Industry standard allows up to 1/8" variance over ten feet—not much! Our template technician will alert you to any cabinetry issues during measurement.

What if my cabinets need modifications during installation?

Minor adjustments are normal and handled by our experienced installation team.

Major modifications identified during templating are discussed beforehand so you can arrange any necessary cabinet work. For example, wall cabinets and vent hoods may require temporary removal for the installation of a full-height backsplash. We will help you though these steps.

Pricing & Financing

How much do granite countertops cost?

Pricing depends on material choice, project size, and installation complexity. Expect $40–$200+ per square foot, with material selection being the biggest cost factor. During your free consultation, we provide detailed estimates covering materials, fabrication, and installation. Our Tampa Bay rates are competitive, and we offer financing for qualified customers.

Do you offer financing options?

Yes, through Wells Fargo. Qualified customers can split payments into 12 equal monthly installments. Check our financing section for details and important disclosures.

What's included in your pricing?

Your price includes materials, shop fabrication, delivery, and full installation. It also covers basic edge profiles and standard sink or fixture cutouts. Extra fees apply for removing old countertops, using premium sealers, special lifting tools, or complex edge treatments. We discuss all design choice costs upfront so you stay informed.

Do you offer discounts for contractors or trade professionals?

Our trade program provides contractors, designers, and builders with special pricing and exclusive material access. Trade customers receive dedicated support, priority scheduling, and volume discounts. Contact us for program requirements and benefits.

How do you handle change orders during the project?

We hate change orders—and you should too. We spend a lot of time on design, templates, and final checks before fabrication to prevent issues. Most change orders stem from changing the cabinet plan after we template. If changes are necessary, we provide written estimates and get your approval before proceeding. Clear communication prevents surprises. Our final confirmation process minimizes change orders.

Care & Maintenance

How long do countertops typically last?

With proper care, quality countertops will last decades. Natural stones such as granite and quartzite have remarkable durability. Engineered quartz offers consistent performance. Hybrid mineral materials like Dekton offer the latest in durability technology. We provide specific care instructions to help maximize your investment.

The biggest threat to durability is the quality of the installation. Even the strongest materials can break if they're not leveled and supported correctly by your installer. Engineered quartz has a specific risk: its resins react to UV light, so it's not suitable for outdoor use. For your next outdoor kitchen project, stick to porcelain and natural stone.

How do I clean and maintain my granite countertops?

Daily cleaning is straightforward: warm water and mild dish soap, then dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots. Do not use abrasive cleaners. My favorite product is Windex Vinegar Glass Cleaner. I've used that on marble and quartzite tops in my own home for over a decade.

Do countertops need sealing?

Depends on the material:

Quartz: No sealing needed. It's non-porous, so warm soapy water or mild household cleaners work fine. Dry with a soft cloth. Quartz delivers great looks with minimal effort—perfect for busy kitchens.

Natural Stone: Yes, marble, granite, dolomite, and quartzite all need sealing. Modern sealer technology is remarkable—you can achieve quartz-like performance with natural stone. We apply sealers before, during, and after fabrication.

Porcelain: No sealing required. This category includes high-density mineral hybrids like Dekton and Éclos. Porcelains offer the highest stain resistance of all materials.

What should I avoid placing on my countertops?

Material-specific guidelines:

Quartz: Never place hot pots and pans directly on quartz—it ranks third in heat tolerance. Heat causes thermal shock, melting, or discoloration. Use trivets or hot pads. Cutting on quartz dulls knives and may scratch the surface. Use cutting boards.

Natural Stone: Better heat tolerance than quartz, though limits depend on stone type. Harder, denser stones like quartzite and granite perform best. Use coasters under acidic drinks to prevent etching on untreated stones. Modern sealers eliminate most staining risks. Natural stone offers reliable all-around performance—there's a type for almost any application.

Porcelain: The clear winner for heat and stain resistance. If you want near-guaranteed performance, this material family delivers. Since porcelain runs thinner than standard countertops, we add mitered edges for a luxury feel.

Special mention—Éclos by Cosentino: This new technology combines porcelain's best qualities with the look of natural stone. It handles temperatures up to 480°F while maintaining a natural stone appearance.

How do I remove stains from natural stone?

For most granite or marble stains, mix baking soda with water into a paste. Spread over the stain, cover with plastic wrap, leave overnight, then rinse. Oil stains respond better to baking soda mixed with dish soap. Stubborn stains may need professional help—call us.

Moving into a house with existing natural stone? Call us to clean your countertops and apply our premium sealer. Don't assume previous owners maintained it properly! Sealing should be on everyone's new home checklist.

Can chips or scratches be repaired?

Our technicians or stone restoration specialists can often repair minor chips and scratches. Success depends on damage size, location, and material type. Send us a picture for a quick assessment. If we can't fix it, we will refer you to a specialist. For severe breaks, save all pieces—even tiny ones. Sometimes we can use all those pieces to create a nearly invisible repair.

Exclusive Products

What is ÉCLOS® by Cosentino?

ÉCLOS® has no crystalline silica and includes over 50% recycled materials. It's ideal for eco-conscious homeowners. We are the only authorized distributor in our market for this KBIS 2026 Best of Show finalist. It blends sustainability, top performance, and modern design.

What is FreePower® wireless charging technology?

Your stone will look beautiful while wirelessly charging phones, tablets, and other devices. Our FreePower®-certified team has the training and CNC equipment needed for proper installation.

Can exclusive products be combined with traditional materials?

Yes. FreePower® technology integrates into granite, quartz, porcelain, or other stone surfaces. ÉCLOS® works as accent pieces or full installations. Our design team helps create combinations that enhance both function and style. We are always adding new solutions. So check in with us for the latest innovations.

This passion flows through our entire process, including our fabrication teams. We blend hand-crafted skills with advanced CNC technology to offer the best design solutions.

Does Granite Plus provide a safe working environment?

Yes, and we continue to improve every day. Several years ago, we partnered with the University of South Florida's OSHA consultancy program. Each year, their team comes to conduct air quality, noise level, and general safety audits of our shop and processes. We also have an annual medical screening program for our workers to ensure our safety programs work well. The biggest health risk for our workers is silicosis, so having an effective safety program is crucial. Our industry associations also mandate these safety programs. Look for membership in the Natural Stone Institute and Rockheads USA (we have both). Even if you don't choose us for your countertops, please ensure you work with a compliant shop. Your informed choice can save lives.

What happens if I'm not satisfied with my countertops?

The final confirmation of your details before fabrication ensures complete design satisfaction. On installation day, we make final adjustments and don't leave until you're satisfied. Our quality control process minimizes issues, and we stand behind our work. We put these steps in our process to promote customer satisfaction. If you're not satisfied, we will work hard to get you there.

What warranty or guarantee do you provide on your work?

We stand behind our fabrication and installation work. We have a 1-year workmanship warranty on everything we do. Our material suppliers guarantee their own products, ranging from about 15 to 25 years. Cambria offers a transferable lifetime warranty. We also offer third-party warranties for staining and chips for 5 or 10 year terms.
